GTI7 problem

Post by Williaml »

Hi there
GTI7 Manual/ MP expired
102 000km
DP Stage 1 remap
For past 2 months having to top up the oil frequently. No oil stains on driveway. Oil light came on last week, and again this morning on the way to work- luckily had oil in the boot to top up. I also noticed a puff of white smoke through the back window when I accelerate hard. No smoke at idle. Fuel consumption still excellent at about 8l/100km (long-term average), and power still seems fine.
Advice please.

Get a compression test done and stick a bore scope down each plug hole. look for wetness on top of the pistons or a piston that looks cleaner than the rest. If you find any drop in compression and or a clean / wet pistons then pepper your anus so long.

Thanks Panic
For a simple person like me- are you saying worn piston rings?
Give me worst case scenario. How much pepper to my anus? (labour/parts)

The break piston ring landings. It depends on who rebuilds it and what parts you use. anything from R30K to R50k.

But I'm not saying it is that. You need to inspect and check.

Just last night I dropped my crystal ball. So sadly I am unable to predict the future at this stage.

Check your intercooler and charge pipes.... if there are loads amounts of oil in them then it can be caused by excessive blowby (rings and landings as panic mentioned).
If its using that much oil and its not smoking like crazy the oil has to be going somewhere...

I'm not asking for predictions. If I ask stupid questions, it's because I really know f-all about how an engine works- I had to Google piston rings.
But thanks for your insight, tells me it's something serious and expensive...

it is impossible for me to know if it is that and if it is serious hence the suggestions of what you need to get tested. Those will give you an indication if there is an issue or not. I cannot tell you if you can drive the car for 400km and if it is damaging the motor currently or not. So basically what you are directly is asking me to predict if it will be Ok or not over a distance with no ability to look at it.
