The head title and the body message are confusing.
Which question is it?

I would recommend a 1.8T to replace the 1.4 Carb in your CitiGolf.

I would suggest you always go pee before going to work or home. 50km can be annoyingly far to have a pee on board.

Personally, I would have a look at the newer drive by wire motors with the oem management. It's a bit more effort but worth it in a daily.

Custom cambelt mount would be needed but front mount will bolt up to the block. Gearbox mounts and driveshafts will remain but would be worth it to upgrade these allong with the clutch depending on your power goals. Fuel tank would also need to be swapped to a fuel injected one.

Yes, 1.8T gearbox.
What is your budget here ?
Would be easier to sell your car and just buy someone else's project.
Or even better, get a Golf 4 Gti or A3 1.8T for same price, with all the comforts, seeing that you doing 100km a day

troof

Don't build something you can buy, unless you do it for plastic trophies in which case it has been done enough times and with more detail so all the trophies are going there

Mostly correct MK1 production ended 1984. Anything after 1984 - is a Citi.

Best advice given to you is don't build what you can buy, if budget allows sell the citi and start looking for a stock A3 as you love it.

I just think it's unnecessary constantly forcing it down people's throats.
They are all the same basic shape. A golf 1
