Power loss on Auto

Post by marzbars »

Hi guys

How much power do you lose on an automatic box.
I have an idea why you lose it due to the torque converter etc.

My 1.6 MK2 is a lot faster than my 1.6 MK1.

That automatic really shiits itself everytime there is an uphill

I can confirm that Fes is fastererer than Stu's GLS, power loss is huge through his auto gearbox...

I'll have your ass at highway speed though! That 1,5 is a bit pap for your 5th gear.

But yes marz, the auto is **** slow as hell. Try hold it in 1st a little longer if you are hitting an uphill. When it shifts early into 2nd you've had it coz it never really kicks down back into 1st.

Well general rule of thumb for a manual box is 15% drivetrain losses

for an old auto slushbox I would say easily 25-30%
