I would think it depends on which MK3.

I'm pretty sure some of them came with MP9, and that pump should be the same as 6N Polo.

But I guess the bigger question is why you're putting a mk3 tank in a mk2? I don't think that's a straight swap.

Outside of the tank will all look the same. There are either clips inside the tank taht a pump clips into or the tank has no clips.
So it's how the pump mounts inside the tank where the difference lies.

Ohhh ok now i understand..... but now would it be better to get the one that clips in or no clips? reason i ask i dont want it to come to where there is quater tank and the pump moves around so it surges (if thats the word) like cuts off

So you need to get the pump that suits the tank. If there is a ring clip mounted at the bottom of the tank you will get a different pump assembly which is basically the pump section separated from the float and mount section.
If that is the case then the pump you have where they are single integral thing it won't work right.
Bit I am also not quite sure what the pump looks like that younhave as you have not posted a pic of that either.
So a case of asking a question but not providing all the info to be able to get it answered.

No worries. There are many configurations of these tanks and pumps and you will most likely be able to see quite clearly whatbthe setup is once you look at it.

@Robz ill first have to collect the tank and see what setup it has now... and im guessing if a G3 pump fits in a 6n tank it should be the same the other way around?

Hi,

There are three different polo fuel pumps the difference is the height of the pump housing. I had the Mk3 Pump in my MK2, I had to change it to the Polo pump (fuel sender was not corresponding with the polo 6N2 dash cluster). if you are going for the MK3 tank make sure that it does not have the locking clips for the MK3 pump or else it will not be a straight fit, you will have to cut the Fuel pump housing to make it short enough so that it fits and seals flush with the tank. I have shortened my Polo fuel pump and it works hundreds.

If you want to go OEM style I have my MK3 pump lying in my garage, PM me if interested.

In this industry nothing just bolts on. you've got to just make it fit.

The tank with clips combined with the non clip pump will foul at the bottom and not sit correctly (too high). So then you will have to breakmor cut the clips out.
Of course like for like is always the right way.

Filter really depend on where you are able to mount it and get to easily next time.
really no change in function as long as it is after the pump before the injector.

This is what the fuel pump and clips inside the tank looks like for a Golf 3 ('94 Digifant), but you get the idea of what Panic is referring to...
