using carbs as ITB's

Post by tnt2door »

Saw these carb in the garage and thought, could a person use these as ITB's?
Image
Has anyone ever tried it? These are 32mm, a tad small I think, but I heard 42mm from the RSI is too big unless one uses a huge cam on an 8 valve. Maybe these would be a good option if I could get them to work.
Thanks

You are stuck with the same problem, fitting a TPS to them and where will the injectors sit? Will have to make a fuel rail for it and fabricate a manifold and make your throttle cable work.
Current:

2006 Citi Golf 2E, Dictator, 4-2-1

Ex:
2003 Audi A3 1.8t, Thanas Tuned, FMIC, coilies, DP and exhaust
2007 Citi golf. ADY with Spitronics 60-2, estas 282, 4-2-1, coilies

2002 Citi golf. ADY carb, estas 282, 4-2-1, GW delarey big brake kit.

Use a stock manifold with the injectors against the head. The tps can be located where the balancing screws are or on either side. There are bigger issues like getting the MAP sensor to work if running MP9. Besides all this, if the carbs get sealed, will they work.

So modify a standard manifold? Fabrication of everything will cost the same as rsi throttles. And as you mentioned 32mm is too small

Yup...if I can manage to get a stock 8v xflow manifold that is.
I have considered rsi throttles, but that sounds too easy  and it's been done.
So if I am reading between the lines...it will probably work? Cool, thanks.

Bike carbs. Yes has been used before. Those are a bit small but you do get bigger.
Of course if you have a 1400 it might be perfect.

This is the preferred way of modding in the UK, a set of bike carbs on a lightly modified engine, intake is easy to fabricate, just a flange with 4 short pipes to connect the rubber couplers to. You have to make provision for the injectors if you want to go FI or mod an existing FI intake to work.
Current rides:

VW Golf - 83 GT 2.1 16V 2-door with throttles
VW Golf - 78 LS 2.0 8V 4-door (2.1 ABF with throttles in progress)
VW Golf - '08 Citi Storm - 1.4 for now
Hyundai - 1.4 Getz (daily)
