my old turbo was repaired with a brand brand new core. fitted today. drove 5km turbo popped. turbo was making a whining noise at 2000rpm sounds like the core was not balanced. power was also not so good. still waiting for the other turbo report:( so without a car this easter

Hectic dude. Maybe change the oil feed and return. Also was the airbox, concertina pipe and TIPs stripped out and cleaned 100%. One tiny piece of your old turbo could have damaged the recon.

pipes was 100persent clean inspected the pipes myself from the airbox before the mec fitted them. while idling and revving there was no noise. but if when you drive from 2000rpm it whines and the power was not so good. sounds like a supercharger. if something went through blades it should have whine the whole rpm range. could it be oil feed and return pipes maybe? i think the core was not balanced

They didn't recon it properly period. Rather just fit a new one like dazza said.

No news.

Called him last week Thursday he told me his on his way to the turbo he will give me a call after a hour. Since now he never came back to me does no answer my calls. Gave my mother his number she called he answered and said he will come as soon as possible to her. So he is avoiding my calls. He said within 4 days I will have a report and I will know if they will exchange the unit under warranty. It is now 2 weeks exactly. Car still standing

I installed the turbo Friday. Drove the car Saturday there is a high pitch noise when boosting and it struggle to get boost in 1st and 2nd gear. from 3 gear it is pulling lekker but with the high pitch noise from 1700rpm till about 2200rpm then the boost kicks in. so Saturday i removed the turbo again because it sounded like a exhaust mani leak. got some gasket sealer. the car still does the same sound. but interesting part is when i clipped in the pipe on the turbo the compressor housing could be moved by hand so meaning it is not tightened nicely(The sound can maybe come from here). called the turbo guy he said he is just human could have make a mistake. so bought yesterday brand new exhaust and intake gaskets. so will remove turbo tonight again and tighten on the bolts on the turbo itself and see if the blades are still good. because when you accelerate without boosting just let the rpm rise slowly there is almost no noise but as soon as you boost that high pitch sound kicks in from only the certain rpm and then when the noise clears the boost will slowly come in

I am so frustrated and tired of all this now

Hope it is all 100% and it is just a small issue. I know the feeling dude. I spent 15k to go Cupra turbo and then another 9k on a new stock turbo install after it popped in 5 weeks.

Worse feeling ever. Spended December R16500 and now so far R11500. will update tomorrow what the outcome is. anyone know what the actuator setting must be just want to check when i remove.

Thanks adjusted it by one turn boost comes in earlier now. will run logs soon. i just checked without logging it is more or less overboosting by 0.1. Anyone know why i am getting the high pitch sound on acceleration especially when boost comes in and then it cleares after 2500rpm. its like high pitch leaking noise. New exhaust gasket and intake gasket. Egr blocked off cant see any black soot around the egr blank plate. The compressor housing can be moved by hand checked all the bolts all is tight

Very unlucky bud. Which route bud? The turbo was balanced before it was fitted. if it is unbalanced will the sound get worse on acceleration? because the sound disappear after a certain rpm and i can punch it the power is there. will see if i can make a sound clip.

The KKK turbo. the noise that u having normally its either unbalanced at a certain rpm or slight damage on the compressor wheel.

Once hot doesn't it go away?

Btw the car is still on stock map hey?

How much is the KKK going for now? there is a chip on the compressor wheel but it is almost nothing. nope even hot its there. I asked keithan to put the car back to stock.

I think a chip in the blade would make it whistle when it spools. My Cupra turbo blades took a beating from a piece of the old turbo hiding in the system finding it's way to the compressor wheel. Blades were grated and it was whining like a cat! I reckon it might no be balanced 100%!

Here is a pic of my blades and the turbo still boosted fine but was whistling like crazy! Police siren!

Then I had Turbo direct fit a new compressor wheel and balance - Easy job, ya rrrrrright. This is what the turbo looked like not even 1000km after. I was still running it in so not boosting it!
The actual housing ripped off the backing plate! And of course it was blamed on 1. overspinning and 2. Ingress which is bull as I had all piping everything stripped out and checked 3 times.

I would just go for a new turbo

- Recon's will not last at all. What did your warranty say? Will they pay for a portion of the new turbo?

Damn bud. Loooks like you also had alot of bad luck on ur side. this turbo had a whine so compressor wheel was also replaced and turbo rebalanced.

What is the best steps will be the best to follow.

New Turbo?
Rebuild this one again?
Or rebuild the one thats still at Trevor?
