1.9 POLO TDI CLUTCH

Post by Sizo »

I changed my clutch kit in February 2013 because there was a problem with it, had it fitted a VW dealership and now its not working again I must buy a new one. Would like to know what might be the problem with this clutch?

What exactly did you change? Which clutch kit did you use? And how do you know you need a new clutch kit?

I used Sachs clutch kit and it was fitted by VW dealership... After struggled to get the car into any gear, it was towed to dealer and they told me I need to change a clutch.

Did you replace the flywheel, thrust bearing, etc? Can you get the car in gear with the engine off?

I read that there was a bad batch of sachs clutches last year. Perhaps one of the forum suppliers can confirm.

If you replaced all the goods like flywheel etc then I would contact a sachs rep so that they can examine it.

Either its a faulty unit, you running big nm power or you abuse the clutch. But I cannot see how a new clutch can only last a year

Hi and sorry to hear of your troubles. First of all is it a 5 or 6sp polo? Yes we had some issues with the 5sp clutches but there are no official recall from Sachs. Sachs at the point of time blamed excessive play on the crankshafts the reason for this problem. The problem was we almost never got a claim from them and they always had a excuse not to pay out or replace (valid or not I can not say I'm not a engineer) but after that a would recommend going the LUK root on those vehicles. Please don't get me wrong. There are nothing wrong with Sachs, just on that specific vehicle I will not recommended it. Your second problem is you just went out of warranty so you won't be able to put in a claim to them.

It can also be a hydraulic issue
