Lapiz Blue Golf 7R - Detailed by Lawrence
I have been wanting to detail one of these ever since they came out. I just love the color
This one only had 25k km's on the clock but was sadly in shocking condition for such a new car. A combination of regular visits to the local 'let-me-pay-you-to-scratch-my-ride-for-me' car wash and very improper home washing had taken their toll on the paint, and everything was just really dirty and uncared for. It had also recently been sent for a polish and predictably there was plenty of wax and/or old polish residue left for me to clean up, along with the obligatory buffer trails.
Bird droppings should be removed as soon as possible, failing which they will start to etch into the clear coat and can often require the removal of large amount of clear coat to remove. Another point to note is that they will often be very gritty in nature which can lead to scratches when removed using the incorrect techniques.
Leave a bug like this on your car and go straight to washing and you will rub that all over your paint, leading to scratches.
Yuck

It was still quite early and so the sun wasn't out in full force yet but you get an idea of what the paint looked like...

Paint correction
The paint readings ranged from 115µ to 145µ
Menzerna FG400 / Blue Lake Country Hybrid Foamed Wool
Menzerna 3-in-1 / White Lake Country Hybrid
Before
After

Exhaust tip (these had been left far too long without a decent clean and the finish has become stained and pitted)
Before
-Cleaned using Carchem APC

One of the attributes I like about the Meguiars Metal Polish is the protection it offers
And on to some after shots....

Thanks bud, but unfortunately I don't think the owner will ...he was already supposed to have purchased the required products to properly maintain both the Range Rover I did for him a few weeks ago as well as the .:R, but I have heard nothing from him and so despite my efforts to educate him, it would appear he is comfortable with his existing washing methods so I expect the R to be back in the same condition in the coming months.WIDEOPN-X3 wrote:Why do peeps pay soooooo much for a car and then leave it to deteriorate so bad

It is very unlikely I will be doing any more work for the customer going forward as I just don't see the point in getting the car corrected when it is not going to be looked after....it is a waste of my time as I'd rather be detailing for someone who appreciates the work I do, and it is a waste of the client's paint...
Thanks Nick. The approach (for the most part) with any initial clean up is generally the same - wash, decon, polish (if needed), protect.... Almost all the products our forum sponsors stock will do the job and ultimately it will come down to personal preference.slownick wrote:Excellent work as always Law , the R does kick out quiet a bit of brake dust , so i was keen to see what methods and products you used !
Thanks Mikhail... I have another one booked for this coming weekend (5th/6th) - really looking forward to it.mikhail117 wrote:what a save bud! Superb turn around

Thanks Ahmed.... it got that bad because it was washed and dried improperly, never had any protection on the paint and was treated without love. From what I have heard it is a daily driver that is treated more like most would treat the company bakkie....Ahmed.Syed wrote:Like how even did it get that bad???? and at 25k kms
Great turn around Lawrence
When you actually see just how easily a modern clear coat can be scratched, you will appreciate how quickly a car can get into this state...
