Quick Review:New Turtle Wax PF Wax & CarChem Luxury Shampoo

Post by Zubair »

Hi

Just a quick review on some samples received from Crazy Detailer. Products tested were the new range of Turtle Wax Perfect Finish Weather Guard Car Wax and the CarChem Luxury Shampoo. My buddy Naz and I decided to use the products on two cars, one white and the other silver as they both required a clean anyways. Naz is a man of few words and here is his review:

Shampoo:

1. Foaming 10/10

2. Economy 9/10

3. Cling 8/10

4. Scent 3/10

5. Cleaning ability 7/10

Turtle wax

1. Ease of use 7/10

2. Shine 7/10

3. Slickness 6/10

4. Scent 7/10

5. Economy 7/10

Goes on easy and comes off even easier. For the price, definitely something I would add to my list.

My review:

CarChem Luxury Soap:

Image

Foams really nicely with only 10ML required to wash the entire car easily. When the buckets halfway just top with water again and it foams up without needing to add more product. I used warm water as recommended by Pravin. Lubricity is fantastic with the wash mit just gliding over the paint. Cleaning ability too was good with the only issue for me being not a strong enough smell or scent like my other car shampoos.

Turtle Wax Perfect Finish Weather Guard Car wax:

Turtle Wax's new pro range. Very pasty looking with a subtle scent of menthol or lavender or chemical depending on whos smelling it. 250g in size and at a price of R213 including a foam applicator make this a bargain. Make sure the pad is slightly moist before applying this wax and application and removal is a breeze. It left the paint very slick to the touch with a nice warm nuba glow. No idea on beading and durability but at the price and volume this is the cheapest wax I have used with really nice results.

Thanks to Zubair & Naz for refreshing review. Well written and documented bud. As someone who has written a few reviews, I know the amount of effort it is to stop what you doing, take a pic, and then continue. Then sit down and actually write it all up. So thanks for sharing!

Couple of comments:
The wax worked pretty well. Good bang for buck as well. I also found it easy enough to work with. Haven't tested the durability though.

I'm loving the shampoo at the moment. Currently my go-to. I've noted a low rating on the scent and I will take this up with Car-Chem so it should be rectified on the next shipment.

Thanks bud, I've always used warm water for any car shampoo as I have found it to clean better and more importantly more comfortable to my hands washing kinda like me preferring a warm shower to a cold one. Pravin or Lawrence can comment on the pros and cons or be more scientific. I used 10ml shampoo to a roughly a gallon +- 4litres of warm water and another 2 litres of hose pipe cool water, when half way just hose pipe top again that way conserve water and product. You brought up some interesting questions hoping the pro's can respond.

Well the first thing I would caution if using hot water when washing is to be very careful if the glass is cold - you could crack it due to thermal shock.

Heat will definitely help the cleaning process - road film, dirt etc are bonded to the surface relatively weakly. You need energy to break those bonds. You can use heat, pressure or chemicals. Hot water packs a lot more energy than cold so will aid in breaking those bonds making wash easier, therefore reducing your chance of swirls.

I typically fill my bucket 50/50 with hot/cold so its warm.... not piping hot

You will also find it helps the shampoo mix with the water better - same in the foam cannon - but there I will mix it more like 75/25 hot/cold as this solution will still get mixed with the cold water coming out the HP washer.

I know this question has come up before and my personal take on this is that it really wouldn't have a negative effect on the paintwork or LSP. We talking warm water here and not boiling hot water on freezing cold paint. If we were talking about those extremes then yes like lawrence mentioned, you have bigger things to worry about other than LSP deterioration.

The warm water just helps to dissolve the syrup like shampoo concentrate.

We made a video of this actual process a while back,:

ONR gets diluted as follows:

Wash solution: ratio 1:256 or 1 oz/2 gallons or 30 ml to 7.68 liters of water (3.9 ml per liter)
Clay lube: ratio 1:64 or 2 oz/1 gallon or 60 ml to 3.84 liters of water (15.6 ml per liter)
Quick Detailer: ratio 1:16 or 8 oz/1 gallon or 240 ml to 3.84 liters for water (62.5 ml per liter)

Regarding the caps:
8oz size cap holds .25 oz or 7.5 ml
32oz size cap holds .5 oz or 15 ml
128oz size cap holds .5 oz or 15 ml

Cyclo APC gets diluted as follows:
1:2 Engine Degreaser
1:4 Mag Wheel Cleaner
I typically use 1:5 for both engine cleaning, door shuts, and wheel wells
1:10 All Purpose Cleaner
1:20 Leather Cleaner

Shampoo is diluted based on the manufacturers recommendation.

If you were talking about Optimum Shampoo and Cyclo shampoo then these are the dilution ratios:

I use around 30ml to 10L of water for Optimum shampoo, and around 100ml of Cyclo shampoo to 10L. The dilution ratio for most shampoos is around 1:128. Maxisuds was around 1:300 like Optimum as well. If I have to use more that 30ml to 10L of water I always feel like its too much.

Oh yeah and take note at the back of supermarket type shampoos, their dilution ratio will always state, 50 odd ml to 5L of water. <- That is where the difference lies.

@Rsi huntered - are you wanting to know how to dilute something if for example the bottle says the correct dilution ratio is 1:10

If so, then what you would do is the following:

Work out the size of the bottle you will be using - let's assume it is a 500ml spray bottle.

Then work out how many 'parts' of solution will go into the bottle - in this case it will be 1 part of the concentrate to 10 parts of water, giving you a total of 11 parts.

Then you say 500 divided by 11 = 45

So 45 ml of concentrate plus 455 ml of water

Oh and a lot of the measurements will refer to ounces and gallons.

An ounce is 30 ml and a gallon is 3.84 liters
