Golf mk1 1.8 carb fuel starvatoin

Please help my car starves of fuel few minutes into drive then it just cuts out and minute later it starts without hesitation.

Could be a few things. Check your fuel filter and fuel lines...I'd suspect the fuel pump.
Remove the hose from the carb and try starting the car, if there is fuel coming from the pipe then your problem could be somewhere else. Use a bottle to catch the fuel :grin:

Ofcause wouldn't wanna set the car alight . Although i do feel like that sometimes,

True! Doesn't feel good.
Don't let the fuel come close to the engine, especially the distributor.
Same thing happened to me in a MK1 1.4, crazy stuttering and then goes away. Was the fuel pump.
Let me know what you find.

Hey Charl another question how do i get my tappets to stop making a noise ? For starters i did replace them but no joy any suggestions?

Measure you oil pressure, could be your oil pump thats not supplying enough oil

Like chucker said, check the oil pressure. I had that problem as well and couldn't get rid of it, turned out to be piston slap...hope its not the case :crazy:

If it's not the oil, check your cam, it should be smooth with NO marks or damage on the lobes.
