Need a Spare Key: Any options other than going to agents?

Post by Heinvr »

Howzit.

So I need a spare key for the VW.

Its the type that does not flip open, but is one piece, and 3 silver buttons.

Do I have ANY other option, than to go to the agents for this?

I'm sure they are going to charge me crapload idiot tax.

Thanks.

Check the likes of bid or buy,eBay etc

Buy the key with full internals meaning remote and transponder and just have it cut and coded to your car

Just went through this process ordering from eBay, be very careful that the remote/coded key will match your actual vehicle incl model and year, it was a mission, do not assume anything.

I found this guy via eBay, http://www.theremotedoctor.co.uk/karvol ... =selection very helpful with my Honda remote, paid R650 incl postage, agents want R3500 for a replacement, the remote hasn't arrived yet but I'm 99% certain it will work, he even sent me pics of the internals so I could be sure all the numbers/chips on the remote matched. Just email him via the contact form on his website.

Quickest and easiest to just go to the dealer.

If you can afford it that is probably the best/easiest, but don't worry for that enormous premium they charge you may still have to wait weeks for the remote to arrive if they have to put it on special order.

My wife has lost 2 keys, both times we went straight to the dealer, both times we had keys and coding done in the same week if not the very next week.

Not the cheapest, but you pay to get the stuff sorted properly the first time

How did that saying go?

Proper... Cheap... Quick... Choose any two.

If that's a coded immobiliser key with integrated remote and includes the programming then that's a fair price.
