Re: Polo Sound
Sub box now fitted to the car.
Must still complete the plug that will cover the nut and bolt (bottom left). Also the grill is not quite what I wanted but it is there to protect everything. If anyone is going to France soon, I need you to bring something back to me...
Had all the little things cut for the amplifier board so lets see how far I get with that over the next few days.

That is the recess for the bolt that secures the box to the car's body.

Got a bit further with the board for the amplifiers last night...
So once done all you'll see is some carpet and two amplifiers! Lets see if I can get it right.

Re: Polo Sound
So the amplifier thingy mabob is just about done...
Just have to carpet the thing. Then I got busy stripping the interior out and removed the left door speaker. Got stuck with the tube between the door and the body, sometimes things are made just too well and this is one of those cases. I didn't take pictures but when I do I'll explain this a bit better.
Also got the power cable through to the battery, even more fun but it's done. I don't know how people lay 0 AWG in their cars!!

Re: Polo Sound
So the amplifiers are now mounted to the car...
Still a bit of work left but I'll get there.
Then this is the inside of the rubber tube that goes to the door:
As you can see, just plugs and no way through for a newly laid 16AWG speaker cable. But luckily the top plug is used for the current speakers so I removed that and used the hole. Getting it out took quite some time and I still don't have feeling in my right thumb . Also the cable must be routed along the original path otherwise the window will just remove your wiring from the speaker very politely (NOT!!) when opened...
The drivers door is complete, the Polyglass is mounted and the door card is fitted again.
The rest of the car looks like this:
Should complete the passenger door tonight.
More to follow!

Wheelwore wrote:Neat bud....Arent you going to add some deadening whilst you at it
I have allready broken my budget tenfold! I am not sure I want to add too much weight with sound deadening and being slightly OCD I would want to fit the Focal B.A.M. stuff and that is not cheap.
Most of the build is/was done when I had some issues with the 4 channel. The left front channel faded after ten minutes and it was sent in to see what is up. If it is not some setting they must adjust, they will replace it. Now it has been 4 weeks and that is starting to irritate me and I asked them to replace it anyway but they do not have stock and they cannot find stock anywhere in SA. Their next shipment is 6 weeks away.
So patience is my second name at the moment.
As soon as I have it back I will update this thread.

Re: Polo Sound
I am getting close to the point where I am going to hook up the fronts to the headunit, I have even ordered a new plug (which was misplaced :\) So I have to go fetch that today and then I might have fronts running tomorrow. Otherwise I just cut some wires!!!Killerwatt wrote:Thats, really unfortunate Stefan.

I feel like escalating the whole story to Focal in France! But I also don't want to sour things here! I will go and discuss it with them on Monday if the status is still the same.
Oh BTW, how is yours coming along? Could you use those rings?

Re: Polo Sound
yeah, hook em up to the headunit for now. It wil give them a chance to run in.
Think maybe give the guys a little more time before escalating it...
I wil only really get started on mine from next week, hopefully...
For now it is all residing in the corner of my lounge. Yeah will def make use of those rings! thanks bud!

Re: Polo Sound
Small update...
Got the amplifier back about two and a half weeks ago but only got around to putting it back in the car over the weekend. They supposedly bench tested it and it was fine only for channel 1 to fade again after a few minutes. So I am not the happiest chappy at the moment. The amplifier will be swopped out however as soon as they get new stock, which will only be in November...
Until then I will run the fronts on channel 3 and 4.
For the rest I got real lazy, I ordered speaker rings from the UK which is on back order but I should get them next week. Those are for the rears. But I need to get the car put back together again so I might just drop my lazy act and cut some rings out of MDF.

Re: Polo Sound
So recently I got the new amplifier and on Sunday I got off my ass and started fitting the rear speakers. Took out the OEM speakers and used the Connects2 CT25VW07 adaptors that I bought from Liquidice-2008 online. Cost was R200 and got here within about 3 weeks.
Anyway the adaptors just screw into place with the old screws. Then the speakers onto that and everything looks like it was made for the car.
The setup is now complete and I must still fit all the panels after I have tidied up the cabling. But the sound coming from this lot is what I was looking for. I like the sound to be "around" me and not just from the front. This was never possible with the oem rears running off the headunit, simply not enough power.
I almost got another set of V30s for the rear but the PS165s actually works better with the seperable crossover. The V30 passive would have to go under the rear seat.
Now just to complete the new boot floor card...
