Cutting citi door card bigger for speaker? + Baffles + more

Post by TemoMK1 »

Hi guys,

Few questions about the golfies front door speakers.

1. Going to 6.5 inch speakers. Must you cut the door card's hole bigger? Or will the standard size hole "block" some of the new speakers sound.

2. Speaker fitted to the door or the panel? Mounting depth is only 4.3 cm so spacers aren't needed.

3. Foam baffles behind the speaker in the door. Do they work or is it a waste?

4. Finally, is it worth fitting deadning if its only going to be on the front doors?

If anyone has any pics of a Citi golf door with deadning, could you please post it. As im not exactly sure where to stick it...

Thanks in advance

In a Citi you are much better mounting the speaker to the metal door frame with some mdf rings. You should also look at blocking off the holes in the door frame with some wood or perspex and a layer of deadener. This will make a huge difference to your midbass output.

I will try and find a thread or some pics

I used mdf spacer rings for the speakers when I had my 6.5inch speakers fitted in my citi. Deadening will help a lot!

Unfortunately, I cannot find mk1 pics.
But google mdf speaker spacer for an idea. Then just block off the 2 big gaps in the door skin to create an enclosure for the midbass
