Sub recommendation - Mk6
I recently upgrade my the sound in my Mk6.
The front stage is a pair MB Quart Premium 6.25" (2003-2005) running off an MB Quart RAA4200 amp. I'm currently borrowing my mates 10" Boston Acoustics Rally Series which is housed in a sealed enclosure. It goes pretty low and sounds decent however taps out at higher volumes. I most definitely need as much boot space as possible - for a pram, baby bags, etc...
Any 10" recommendations for my setup would be appreciated (Rockford/MB Quart/etc)

I had JBL GTO 1014, beautiful sub for the money, currently running a Gladen RS10 sub, even better than the JBL i.m.o.

I'll have a look. The Boston I have goes pretty low - but I think I may appreciate a 12.
Never heard of Gladen...

I was hoping to try find an MB Quart sub - but it doesn't look good.
What does a Gladen go for?
What is mmats?
I bought a second hand Rockford P1 12" earlier this morning with the intention of trying it out but I am really set on a 10" that performs well - due to space constraints.
*Edit. Just had a look at the RS10. Looks fantastic. What do they retail for?

The gladen RS10 was exactly R1500. Needs a tiny 20L box to run so you have boot space aswell

Ill go pass hygrade and see if they have demo unit I can listen to. I would definitely be keen in saving some boot space.

My sound is not in the same league as the others but I have a xtc 8inch sub in its own enclosure in my citi, it sounds good and it plays really well for a entry level sub. I had a kenwood 10inch in before the xtc and the xtc is better in every single way.

Re: Sub recommendation - Mk6
Weirdly enough I temporarily sealed the sub enclosure and adjusted the frequency slightly (reduced) and the difference is massive.
Suddenly the boomy intolerable bass is gone and it's a lot more precise.
Any other tricks I can use to fine tune the bass?
The box doesn't have any internal padding - is this something that I should look I to?

Re: Sub recommendation - Mk6
thats the case,as thats an off the shelf enclosure, mass produced and no were close to what the spec should be for your rf sub.by sealing of the port you have gotten rid of the boomy bass......the sub can still get damaged though bud....sealed enclosures are more forgiving than incorrect vented enclosures.Life160 wrote:Weirdly enough I temporarily sealed the sub enclosure and adjusted the frequency slightly (reduced) and the difference is massive.

Re: Sub recommendation - Mk6
RF recommends a 35 litre (1.25 cubic feet) box for the P1. After some calculations my box is exactly 40.66 liters. Would it be dangerous to have too small or too large a box.JAZ wrote:thats the case,as thats an off the shelf enclosure, mass produced and no were close to what the spec should be for your rf sub.by sealing of the port you have gotten rid of the boomy bass......the sub can still get damaged though bud....sealed enclosures are more forgiving than incorrect vented enclosures.Life160 wrote:Weirdly enough I temporarily sealed the sub enclosure and adjusted the frequency slightly (reduced) and the difference is massive.
