JonaDTD's VooDoo 2.0 8V

Postby JonaDTD » Mon Oct 10, 2016 10:39 am

I have tried to not make too much of a scene about the Polo, but two months ago it understeered into a pavement and took out gearbox and the front subframe etc with it. I had really had enough of the car and decided to rather part it out, which worked out well and I managed to recoup the losses incurred.

I then bought myself a little cheapie (or so I thought) Citi golf. Specs are 1995 Citi Chico, with a 2.0 8v AGG motor. The car initially had a 276 cut cam, double valve springs, bigger valves, 4-2-1 branch, and a 50 - 57mm exhaust.

The car was a non runner per se, so I had it sent to KSD for tuning where we found that the Dicktator was damaged, we fixed that and she made some pretty meh power (101kw 195nm).

The steering rack was also shot so I replaced that at Claude's Auto Services.

Two days later, was waiting for my mate to open up the door for me and a bolt decided to shear off on the thermostat housing, so instead of drilling it out - I played it safe and replaced the whole water pump unit and put a new thermostat in there.

I also didnt like the idea of a cut cam, so I spoke to the ever dashing forum member, Nellis, and got my hands on a brand new 288 Estas. THANAS gave me so much help getting it fitted up and we got the car started, then on the way to take my son to school this morning the fans decided to just, well, not work - and now I am sitting with a blown head gasket.

MAYO EVERYWHERE.

In conclusion, I think I may have bought a lemon car.....

Ag no man
hopefully this car does not become a lemon and after this mayo issue, it will behave and you have trouble free motoring.

I hope so too - when it was at KSD they said by the looks of the gasket material it won't last long. They were right.
Head needs to come off tonight and get tested for flatness and I need to get new gaskets etc. THANAS is recommending Elrin or VR - and I trust him so will give that a bash.

Officially marks the point that I have spent 50% of what I bought the car for since I got it.

Also, I am going to drop sump etc and clean, any other tips to remove all mayo? Multiple oil flushes?

Hope so too - but the car needs a lot of love. My concern is how something as small as fan failing can tear a motor into its demise.

So, quick update - applied power to fan and guessed it - nought.

So fan motor seems to have given up on life.

Why not?

Without a resistor, the fan would run at full speed.

(You'd need some pretty sturdy cables, though, because these fans draw quite some current.)
