Pyro's Polo C/Line - Sold...

Postby pyro-zn » Thu Mar 05, 2015 3:32 pm

Hi guys, :hi:

Since I've become rather attached to my Polo 6R, I thought I'd get a thread going ... especially since I've chosen to get it looking slicker. Also would be nice to see where I started and where I'm going with mods... and and and - input from you guys since most of you know what looks good and what doesn't (instead of creating a new thread everytime I have a question and forget to use the search tool). So!

It's a 2013 Polo 6R 1.4 Comfortline. Panoramic Sunroof, Leather ... and some other bits. The plans are, of course, to make the mods unique but not go overboard or towards the ricer level. The name "PacMan" is a long story...

This is when I collected my Polo:

Image

Image

I didn't want to start doing the bigger mods early, cause if I picked up something major that the Dealership needed to rectify, they would just blame the mods (you know the usual story). So first on the list as to spray the badges. I first tried PlastiDip, but it just didn't look right especially with the front grill having a gloss finish. I opted for a gloss spray (wasn't too concerned about it being permanent).

Image

Image

Unfortunately, the rear didn't come out as nice as I wanted as the white spray I had was brighter than the CW paint. The plan for CW inserts will come soon.

I then saw Jabsport selling the two toned front badges, basically the outer-part of the badge is black and the inner-part of the badge is white. I had the paint with me, so I said I'll attempt it first before purchasing one.

Image

Image

Took me two attempts to get it right. I liked it then, but now I'm not so sure. Full gloss back will be on the cards soon.

Moving along...
3-4 months went by and I had no issues with my car. Was pretty happy, I wanted a set of coilovers. Having owned Maxtrac, they were very comfortable when giving it a few threads. After doing a lot of research, I settled for either JOMs or FKs as they go lower than Maxtrac.

Rang up Rob @ Dubcorp, unfortunately he is unable to arrange JOMs or FKs. I was referred to Zubair @ Wheels & More for FKs. My first (and last) conversation was that there's no stock and I should contact Mo's Tyres and Exhausts as they are getting some in 2 weeks. I rang them up, they tell me that they won't be getting stock in a long time and they deal with Cobra Coilovers @ R 10 500 with fitting. Price was a bit steep as a few months back, I was quoted no more than R 7k with fitting. From what I hear, Cobras are awesome, but was out of my 'budget'. I then tried calling, emailing, SMS'ing, Facebook messaging Zubair (like a crazy ex) but had no response. I was finally referred to DDM Imports. Sent them a message on Facebook and they responded almost immediately. My set of JOMs was ordered on the same day! (thanks Reolan)

A guy had a set of A-Line Racers which he was willing to swap for my 15 inch rims and a small cash difference. Rims were swapped, and it was only until I got home did I notice the knocking noise (some of you may have seen my thread regarding this). Long story short, Super Quick and TWT stuffed me around, and G-Force Tyres assisted (the OEM bolts I used were too long and were also incorrectly seated).

Image

Car is definitely crying for some low, should get the coilovers in a week or two. Then I'm off to Dubcorp to get them fitted. JOMs are infamous for that knocking noise when slammed, so I can only trust Dubcorp with this install.

Still saving for a good set of rims... either VW Longbeaches, VW Arrietas or VW Evolvos. My friend has a set of VW Motorsports, so that's out of the list. I've always liked the Longbeach wheels. They are priced around R 10k with tyres 2nd hand (won't even bother going directly to the agents for this). I'm not gonna bother changing those noisy Dunlops I have on now, rather put that money into the next set of rims.

Future plans:
- Velcro mod (have the Velcro, just haven't gotten around to drilling out the poprivets).

Image

- Remove or trim mudflaps when coilovers are installed. Those mudflaps are so long, that they scrape everywhere even with the car being as high as it is.
- Get some sound installed.

Thanks for the read.

Hi! :hi:
So when I said that the coilovers will arrive in a week or two... I was wrong. Received an email yesterday from Reolan @ DDM Imports that he collected it! :hurray: just the set to be couriered to me and then it's time for fitment.

So this arrived ... big thanks to Reolan @ DDM Imports!

Unfortunately, fitment will only happen at the end of the month as budget keeps getting blown on Nandos and alcohol.

Coilies, no invite for a dop?

Maybe paint the wheels silver so that we can see the details of the wheel?

Next time you're in Durban, I'll buy you a bottle of Cape 2 R10 ...

The wheels are temporary-ish. I grabbed them the chance I got since I was getting coilies. It does need a refurb soon due to the roadworks on the N2... not silver, probably a gun-metal grey.

My 13' Polo 1.4 C-Line AKA *PacMan* - Minor Updates...

Postby pyro-zn » Sat Mar 14, 2015 10:29 pm

So... fitted my old sound into the car, just a 4 ch amp and a SVC sub, nothing major... enough punch for now, or I might just leave it as is since my previous cars had rattles in most of the parts inside the car. :fear:

Purchased a Line Out Converter, didn't feel the need for the one with the gain controls etc. Another annoying thing is the factory head-unit... when you switch it off, it's not actually off. So using the remote wire from there was pretty pointless. Anyways I was lazy, so I fitted a switch on the remote wire. Just a noob snap of the boot...

Image

Tested everything and made sure the sunroof worked this time. I must say, mounting the amp was a complete b#@#. It felt like I was mounting it to a solid piece of cast iron...

I noticed some water spots on the car. I had some Meguiar's Cleaner Wax, wasn't feeling so lazy anymore, and got rid of those spots... finished up quite late, so no nice pics of my PoHi.

Image

Thanks for reading.
